Laboratory for Effective Use of
Underground Waters
(Alexander N. Mandychev, Head)
Activities
For many years the Laboratory has been engaged in long-term
studies of low water lines of the Chu and Issyk-Kul artesian basins. This
research is based on the analysis of tectonic, lithologic, filtration,
hydrodynamic, hydrothermal and hydrochemical parameters.
Results
-
As a result of research on the Chu and
Issyk-Kul artesian basins, forming mechanism and renewable resources reserves
of thermal mineral underground waters have been determined.
-
Renewable resources of Sharpyldak
underground waters have been determined with the use of research on filtration
parameter variations and hydrodynamic estimations. The same methods were used
to obtain more specific information on quaternary aquifer systems of the
Issyk-Kul basin.
-
The above mentioned results are shown in
digital maps created in MapInfo format. In addition, a digital map of
underground waters available in the Djety-Oguz raion was prepared.
-
Pollution status of underground waters
in quaternary aquifer systems of the Chu river basin has been investigated. A
methodology to evaluate the underground waters vulnerability has been
developed, and a zoning map to determine the degree of pollution vulnerability
of underground waters of the basin has been compiled.
-
A mechanism of forming underflooding and
waterlogging phenomena as well as a long-term regime of underground water
levels in quaternary aquifer systems of the Issyk-Kul, Kochkor, Chu, Talas and
Fergana basins has been analyzed. Recommendations on underflooding prevention
were worked out.
