 Laboratory for Mathematical and Cartographic

Modelling of Natural Processes

(Valeri A. Kuzmichenok, Head)

The main research direction of the Laboratory is modelling of natural objects and processes associated with humidification conditions of a particular area. Modelling works are carried out with the use of GIS and specific software developed by the Laboratory’s specialists. Digital maps are widely used for research-related activities; results are represented in the form of thematic maps.

Results

  • Digital models and maps on humidification conditions of the country’s territory;

  • Mathematic and cartographic modelling of moisture circulation components in the Issyk-Kul lake basin.

Achievements

Development of a series of digital models can be mentioned as one of the most significant achievement of the Laboratory. These models cover the entire country’s territory and include digital models of altitude, inclination, exposition, orientation index, mean curvature, average annual air temperature, annual amount of atmospheric precipitation, evaporation, potential evaporation, runoff module, humidification, forests, glaciers, etc.

Maps based on digital models can be used for both scientific and educational purposes. Digital models can be also used to solve different tasks of natural processes modeling (from estimation of flow for a particular area to forecasting humidification conditions in the context of climate change.
